AmBank Enrich Credit Card Review: Infinite vs. Platinum

Hey Bros and Sis!
As I previously teased in my community posts last June and Instagram stories (which I later deleted), the AmBank Enrich Visa credit cards are now officially 1st July 2024 available on the AmBank website.
AmBank's Enrich Visa Infinite and Visa Platinum cards are designed to cater to the diverse needs of frequent flyers. Both cards offer a range of benefits centered around earning Enrich Points, which can be redeemed for Malaysia Airlines flights and other rewards.

Here’s a table to better summarise the features of each credit card:

AmBank Enrich Visa Infinite

  • Target Audience: High-spending individuals with a penchant for travel.

  • Key Benefits:

    • Earn 1 Enrich Point for every RM1 spent overseas and airlines, and RM3 spent locally.

    • Unlimited access to Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge for cardholder and one guest.

    • Up to 10% discount on Malaysia Airlines flight tickets.

    • Comprehensive travel insurance coverage.

    • Concierge service.

  • Fees: RM500 annual fee (waived with RM50,000 to RM99,999 annual spend, fully waived with RM100,000 annual spend).

  • Income Requirement: Minimum RM100,000 annual income.

AmBank Enrich Visa Platinum

  • Target Audience: Budget-conscious travelers looking to earn Enrich Points.

  • Key Benefits:

    • Earn 1 Enrich Point for every RM2 spent overseas and airlines, and RM4 spent locally.

    • Four complimentary access to Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge per year.

    • Up to 10% discount on Malaysia Airlines flight tickets.

    • Basic travel insurance coverage.

  • Fees: None (free-for-life).

  • Income Requirement: Minimum RM24,000 annual income.

Sounds so good kan? From the information above, I will now discuss each of the so-called benefits individually.

Annual Fee:

  • Visa Platinum: Waived for life.

  • Visa Infinite: Waived for first year. Subsequent years waived with minimum RM100,000 spend or half waived if RM50,000 spent.

  • Oversea spending - Visa Infinite earns 1 Enrich Point for every RM1 spent overseas, while the Visa Platinum offers 1 point for every RM2. Although these aren't bad rates, other cards like the UOB PRVI Miles Elite provide better value by allowing you to earn 1 Air Mile (usable with multiple airlines) for less than RM1 spent overseas. Unless you’re a dedicated Malaysia Airlines fan and Enrich Points collector, you might find more flexibility with other cards.

  • Local Spending - As I usually do, I checked the terms and conditions with my banker. They said the AmBank Visa Infinite and Visa Platinum will earn you 1 Enrich Point for every RM3 and RM4 local spent, respectively, until June 30, 2025. But this isn't guaranteed and works on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here’s the catch: the special offer to earn 1 Enrich Point for every RM3 or RM4 spent has a limit of 43 million Enrich Points total. So, if many people use the AmBank Visa Infinite and spend a lot, the points might run out before June 2025.

Even if you're one of the first to get the card and enjoy the RM3 for 1 point rate, it might not last long. If there are 3,000 cardholders spending RM9,000 each per month, the 43 million points could be used up in less than 5 months! Not to mention, since Maybank has capped air miles redemption at 100 million per month, and they always run out on the first day of the month.

Also to be honest the RM3/RM4 for 1 point local spend offer isn't very good. My favorite card, the Alliance Bank Visa Infinite, Visa Platinum, and Virtual Card, offers a better deal with 1 Enrich Point for every RM1.88 spent online or through e-wallets. Even though there's a monthly spending cap of RM3,000 , it still gives you a better return on your spending.

Next, let's talk about the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge access. The AmBank Enrich Visa Infinite card offers unlimited lounge access for you and a guest. However, there's a catch: you need a valid Malaysia Airlines ticket to use the lounge.

If you usually fly business class, this benefit might not be very useful since you'd likely have lounge access already. But if you frequently fly economy class on domestic flights, the free lounge access can be a nice perk. And you can bring +1 guest!

Another highlight, if you fly with Malaysia Airlines often, both AmBank Enrich cards can help you earn Elite Points faster. This means you can reach higher tiers quicker, which comes with extra benefits like lounge access and free checked baggage. The AmBank Enrich Visa Platinum is especially good for this since it doesn't have an annual fee.

Conclusion -

Compared to my current credit cards, the AmBank Enrich cards aren't significantly better for earning air miles. It's important to note that if you're really into Enrich Miles, these credit cards are great options. I just want to be clear about that before people who love Enrich Miles start disagreeing with me, because I love collecting Enrich Miles too, especially since it's easier for me to do so with my Alliance VI card.

However, if you frequently fly with Malaysia Airlines, the AmBank Enrich Visa Platinum stands out. Its free-for-life status makes it attractive. Plus, you can enjoy free access to the Golden Lounge even with an economy ticket and earn Elite Points faster. Don't forget, both AmBank Enrich cards offer discounts on Malaysia Airlines tickets.

To make an informed decision, I recommend reading the full terms and conditions on the AmBank website first also before applying for either card, carefully evaluate your spending habits, travel frequency, and the value you place on Enrich Points.
